Get a Comfortable Root Canal With Our Team’s Gentle Touch & Sedation

A root canal is needed when the soft inner portion of a tooth (known as the pulp) becomes infected. Over time, an untreated cavity or injury to the tooth can lead to infection, requiring a root canal. Dr. Bickler will access the pulp chamber and clean out the infection. He will then treat it with medication to sterilize the tooth. Then, he’ll seal the tooth with a rubber-like material to help prevent reinfection.

At the end of your root canal treatment, we normally recommend capping the repaired tooth with a crown. We can make your crown right in our office, using the advanced technology of our CEREC system. We’ll take digital impressions, design your crown on our computer, then manufacture it with our milling machine – all while you wait. The crown will cover and strengthen the tooth to give you back a strong bite.

We’ll make sure that your time with us is as comfortable as possible. You can take advantage of several amenities that include pillows, blankets, a beverage bar, and headphones. You’ll also have a choice of sedation options, if desired. We offer:

  • Inhaled Sedation – Breathe in laughing gas and you’ll immediately feel a mild euphoria from head to toe. You’ll feel like yourself again in no time and be able to drive yourself home.
  • Oral Conscious Sedation – Take a small pill before your appointment to become relaxed all over. Since the pill will leave you groggy for a few hours, you’ll need to arrange a ride home.

If you need root canals in Salem, you’ve come to the right place. Call Bickler Dentistry today at 503-647-4645 to schedule an appointment. You can also make an appointment online.

Common Questions About Root Canals

Why have a root canal?

When the inner portion of the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes inflamed or infected, a root canal procedure is necessary to remove the infection and protect the tooth. The alternatives would be extracting the tooth, which could cause bone loss and allow other teeth to shift, or simply doing nothing, which could put your healthy teeth and gums at risk for infection.

Are root canals painful?

While they have that reputation, most patients find a root canal no more uncomfortable than receiving a filling. The procedure eliminates pain; it doesn’t cause it! We’ll numb your mouth with local anesthesia so you don’t feel pain. You may find it easier to relax if you also receive one of our forms of safe dental sedation.

How much does a root canal cost?

Without performing an exam on your mouth, it’s difficult to estimate the total cost of root canal treatment. The cost may be determined by the location of the tooth and the severity of the damage. Plus, we normally recommend capping the repaired tooth with a crown to help strengthen it, so the cost of the crown would need to be figured into the total treatment cost.
