In the meantime, see five ways we can relieve your toothache pain. Dr. Bickler can:
- Stop Decay With a Filling or Crown – Cavities are a pretty common cause of a toothache. The good news is, they are also one of the easiest problems to fix. Depending on the extent of the decay, Dr. Bickler will repair the cavity with a filling or a dental crown. Unlike most dental practices, you can get a crown in a single visit at our office, thanks to our CEREC technology.
- Mend Cracked or Broken Teeth – Broken and cracked teeth can result in a toothache. A crown is the usual fix for this damage. It’s important to seek help right away. Left untreated, bacteria can enter your tooth through a break or crack. If that happens, it’ll cause a painful infection inside your tooth.
- Clean Out Infection With a Root Canal – If the soft inside of your tooth gets infected, your two options are a root canal or extraction. We typically recommend keeping the tooth in place if possible. Recovery is quicker and easier, and you won’t have to worry about a tooth replacement. Dr. Bickler will clean out the diseased pulp during a root canal and use a crown to seal your tooth afterward.
- Remove a Badly Damaged Tooth – If you do need to have a tooth removed, Dr. Bickler can handle the procedure. He’ll use a gentle touch and numb your mouth with local anesthesia. You can also receive dental sedation if you’d like.
- Stop Grinding-Related Tooth Pain – Grinding your teeth can cause pain. It’s generally your jaw that hurts, but it’s easy to mistake this discomfort for a toothache. Dr. Bickler can provide you with a custom mouthguard that will stop the grinding. You will feel better and get a better night’s sleep.
If you’re uncomfortable, you’ll want to know what to do until you can visit our Salem, OR office. You’ll find some great suggestions for stopping toothache pain in this short video.
Two of the easiest and most effective methods of relief are also quite effective: apply a cold compresses and take over-the-counter pain medication. Since it is an anti-inflammatory, ibuprofen is an especially good choice for the medication.
